What is Vagus Nerve?
The Vagus Nerve is the 10th cranial nerve and the longest cranial nerve in the human body. It is also the most complex of all nerves in the body that proceeds from the brain, responsible for transmitting motor information from the brain to tissues and organs throughout the body. The vagus nerve represents 80% of our Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS), directly controlling digestion, detoxification, and immunity.
Top Vagus Nerve Related Disorders
- Depression or anxiety or both
- Insomnia / sleep apnea
- Higher blood pressure, 30%
- Gastrointestinal complaints, 29%
Stimulating the vagus nerve can ‘wake up’ the PNS, benefitting the human body in various ways. Lowering blood pressure naturally, decrease in muscle tone, and the innate immune system is activated, reducing body-wide inflammation (Pavlov 2012).
Non-Invasive Vagus Nerve Simulation
The concept of passive or active electrically stimulating the auricular branch of the vagus nerve (ABVN) is now gaining recognition in science. (Barone L et al; 2007, De Couck M et al; 2012).
Known as– non invasive vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) – VNS has been reported to improve HRV (Constantinescu V et al., 2019, Levin C et al), activate the parasympathetic system, (Clancy JA et al., 2014) reduce inflammation (Kaniusas et al., 2019), improve lung functioning (Tracey, 2007), and the reduce cytokine inflammation in(Tracey, 2007; Stavrakis et al., 2015).
Benefits of Vagal Stim Applications:
- PAIN THERAPY: Dolphin VNS can introduce this potentially lifesaving intervention into any hospital or clinical setting (applied in under 15 min/patient)
- STRESS DE-ACTIVATION: Dolphin may be applied to reduce stress and anxiety immediately and improve immunity
- GENERAL RELAXATION: Dolphin helps in relaxing the body resulting into lowering blood pressure, improving digestion, controlling blood sugar levels, reducing activity of stress hormones, reducing muscle tension and chronic pain.
Dolphin Vagal Nerve Stimulator produces minute DC microcurrent impulses that gently relax stress to activate the Vagus Nerve. Ten (10) minutes of vagal stim relaxes the same as eight (8) one-hour massages. (JCAM 2016)
Dolphin VNS is a safe clinical procedure and could be an effective vagal enhancing treatment. Dolphin VNS can be safely administered by any health care professional or clinical staff with minimal training or supervision.
