Most people don’t realize it, but with C-section scars (and any abdominal scarring) there’s the scarring you see on the outside at the incision site, and the scarring you can’t see on the inside – called adhesions. While both can cause issues, adhesions are the primary culprits for much of the chronic pain and dysfunction faced by women who’ve undergone a C-section.
Surgery is the leading cause of adhesions in the body, and C-sections are the number one surgery performed in the United States, with over 1.3 million performed annually in the USA alone. Adhesions develop naturally when there is internal trauma to our bodies, such as a surgical operation. While they’re naturally occurring, they can have adverse affects on our bodies by connecting tissue that shouldn’t be connected, like organs – in fact, women who’ve had a C-section sometimes develop Small Bowel Obstruction, a condition where the intestinal tract is kinked and twisted by adhesions. They also connect to our fascia, the web-like structure that connects all organs and tissues in our bodies. When they connect to our fascia, they can distort it, pulling muscles and pinching nerves. This limits our ability to move freely, and heightens the sensitivity of the autonomic nervous system, which controls our pain.
Abdominal adhesions are fast becoming an epidemic in the United States. Digestive Surgery reported that 90% of patients with abdominal surgeries will develop adhesions. Every year in the United States alone, millions of abdominal surgeries are performed, such as C-sections, appendectomies, hysterectomies, and tummy tucks, and the biggest problem is that not many women are aware of the risks that adhesions pose until after they’ve gone under the knife.
How does the Dolphin Neurostim™ work?
It’s simple! The Dolphin Neurostim™ is applied to each side of visible scars, transferring gentle, DC microcurrent deep into the tissue of the skin. When the microcurrent enters our body, it helps electrically “repolarize,” or release, the thickened scar tissue, as well as release fascia and muscles impinged by the scarring. Circulation is also increased, which, in turn, helps the lymphatic system remove dead cells from the body and encourages blood flow and healing to the area. All of this helps return mobility, improve appearance, and decrease pain both at the site of the scar and anywhere else in the body that scar may be affecting. In many cases, relief can be felt with one application!

Hi, I am a Massage Therapist and have many clients with scar tissue. Which Neurostim should I purchase and is there any training with it?
Hello Denise,
The Dolphin Neurostim is very effective for scar tissue.
Utilizing two units is required for treatment of a scar. Regarding training, we recommend looking at our Scar courses here: https://www.mpscourses.com/scar/
Will this help with tethered scar beneath the skin?
I have tethered scars behind my nipples.
I don’t mean the actual incision line, I mean the tissue deeper that is stuck is even more noticeably stuck when I flex or move my arm above my head.
Hello, thanks for your question.
Yes, this works on all types of scars and adhesion.
My concern is a bit complicated. I had a benign tumor removed which required the cutting of 7 centimetres of a nerve which caused sensitivity and numbness to my bra line area which raps around from the back to the front under the breast. My scar runs diagonally on my mid back. I recently got shingles which appears to have attached itself to that same nerve (nothing confirmed medically). However, the shingles outbreak was very minimal (1 spot) and healed quickly with the assistance of prescription medicine.
My concern now is whether or not the MPS treatment of the scar can, in any way, affect the nerve and potentially cause the shingles to resurface?
Is this considered a medical device and of so would it be covered under a flexible spending account?
Thank you for your question Amanda.
We suggest you purchase the prescription model, and contact your insurance company and provide the HCPCS code: e0745 to see how much you would be reimbursed for.
Thank you.
Back in 07 I had a four and a half hour surgery to take apart all of my organs due to pelvic adhesion disease. Which I believe is what you are referencing here. I was told at that time that I would need to have another one later. I am starting to have difficulties again . I would rather not have a surgery. Will this device alleviate that need? Or should I get the surgery again then use the device? And how much is the device where do I get it.
Thanks for your question,
We recommend you try the Dolphin first before surgery. Its possible you may not need a second surgery.
Could this happen also with heart surgery?
Thanks for your question Lupe.
Yes it can also happen with heart surgery.
I have had 4 c-sections my history with it is I have no sensation is nothing my nerves in that part of my stomach are numb… However I am an insurance biller I will be checking on whether this procedure is covered out of curiosity with the procedure code that was given for it…
I had a (L)Thyroiddectomy. The next day while waiting to be discharged,I was in the shower and felt a strange sensation in my incision, upon touching neck,it was bulging.Long story short,I ended up having a clavicle muscle strap tear w/hematoma.I continue to experience pulling, tighting, and a sesation that something is pulling and could snap.It has caused me to have several panic attacks, thinking that something is tearing in my neck.I’ve been back and forth to my pcp,and all they tell me is it’s probably scar tissue. With the way it feels,it feels like it could potentially cause future serious problems. Can the scarring cause potential future problems? Thanks

What about use on spinal cord injury scars? Do metal rods cause harm or affect the treatment adversely?
Thank you for your question, metal rods are not contraindicated
Would my Ob-gyn be familar with this if I mention it? I’ve had two c sections and now am curious about this.
Your OB-gyn may not be familiar specifically with our device but they should be aware of using electrical stimulation for pain relief and scar treatment.
Is this procedure usually covered by insurance ?
Hello Susanne,
It depends on your insurance company and your coverage.
We encourage you to contact your insurance company for further details.
I have had two back surgeries on my L4-L5 the surgeon said I build more scar tissue than the average person..the scar tissue was the reason for my second surgery would it help that? I have also had two c-sections
